Beyond The Grave
In my project, Beyond the Grave, I explore the relationship between life and death and examine how I honor the deceased and my relationship with mortality. This series includes self-portraits that reflect my connection to the realm beyond the veil, still lifes, and cemetery landscapes that evoke the quiet, reverent spaces where life and death converge.
A significant part of this project features images of the East Boone Prairie Cemetery in Robertson County, Texas, where many of my ancestors are buried. Of the many graves included are those of my great aunt and uncle, with whom I had a personal relationship, and that of my grandfather, who passed away during my father’s childhood. Through these images, I aim to honor their lives, explore the ongoing connection I feel to them, and examine how their absence continues to shape my understanding of the past and my own identity.
