About The Artist

Gabby Rora Holder, or Rora, is a visual and performing artist from Houston, Texas. A self-proclaimed “Jack of All Trades,” Holder practices multiple mediums including music, photography, filmmaking, collaging, and acting.

Their first love, music, landed them at Berklee College of Music from 2019 to 2021, where they majored in vocal performance and fostered their lifelong love for music. There, she learned how to write and produce music through the use of programs such as Logic, Reason, ProTools, and Ableton. With these programs, Gabby has produced and released covers under the pseudonym Rora, a shortened form of her middle name, Aurora.

At Berklee, Holder learned the basics of sound design and film scoring, which allowed them to combine two of their greatest loves, music and film. They have used these skills from Berklee in their personal video performance art today.

Besides music, Gabby practices visual arts like digital and film photography. They took their first photography class in their Junior year of high school, where they were trained in shooting and developing 35mm black-and-white film.

They’ve become proficient in digital photo and video editing through programs such as Adobe Photoshop, Lightroom, and Premiere Pro. Currently, they shoot both digitally and on film, but focus primarily on film.

They are currently enrolled in the University of Houston’s Photography and Digital Media program, where they continue to hone and refine their skills. They have expanded their photographic practices to include medium format photography, video performance, toning, cyanotyping, and collaging.

Her photographic and video art work focuses primarily on life, death, and gender expression, and has been featured in the Safe Space virtual gallery and displayed in the Allen College Art gallery.

Finally, Holder holds a passion for film and cinematography. She learned how to make films in high school and has been working towards getting her degree in Media Production with a focus in Digital Cinematography at the University of Houston since transferring from Berklee College of Music in 2021.
